What is Big Do?

The purpose of the Big Do design hackathon is to exhibit how Apparel and Textile Design can become a lighthouse to a beautiful, clean, just, and thriving circular economy.

With the Sustainable Development Goals as a base line, design concepts are created that transcends the ideas of what is sustainable in the apparel and textile industry. Together, we will nudge positive impact on the planetary boundaries to inspire stakeholders in our industry to move into a transformative decade, building a new prosperous state for apparel and textiles.

Why should you take a part in it?

Taking part in the Big Do gives your organisation a chance to participate in the transformation of our industry, developing tangible and forward-thinking solutions to identified issues. With a Global, Cultural and Regenerative perspective we will support you and work together to develop visionary outcomes in response to the UN SDGs, rather than remaining focussed on what is possible right now.

We are seeking motivated partners, located in across the world, from Silicon Valley, California, to Sweden and Johannesburg, South Africa. This is your chance to take on the really big problems of our industry! What might the future of your organisation be?

What will happen with the result?

The outcomes of the Big Do hackathons will be presented with an exhibition of texts, images and movies during the international Hackathon Summit in October 2021.

The aim with the International Design Hackathon Summit is to inspire and give the textile- and fashion industry insights for creating solutions towards sustainability and circular economy. On this digital event the participants in Big Do will get a chance to inspire and challenge other companies by sharing results and experiences from the Big Do process.

Later the work will be presented in Exposé, which is a design-driven public exhibition concept within the framework of Textile & Fashion 2030 that aims to present and make available visionary and problem-solving examples and the latest in a circular and sustainable textile sector and related research.

More outcomes can be seen in the Digital Exposé

How will the Big Do support you?

We will help you to build knowledge and connections to support you to deliver the transformation intent of the workshops. We will provide mentoring from experts in sustainable and circular fashion and textiles. In the May workshop we will help you to develop long term vision, and the tangible concept for Big Do, and source/supply materials that you need for the Big Do in August. You will have access to the textile labs within the Swedish School of Textiles such as: Weaving, knitting, printing, colouration, construction labs and the Do Tank.
